I love the infinite possibilities of glass. While it shares various properties with other materials, no other material has similar optical qualities. I want my work to express these qualities and frequently explore themes of translucency vs. transparency or opacity and clarity. While my professional art career is relatively short I left a job in corporate marketing in 1999.
I have been involved in designing and making objects and art throughout my life. I have always been drawn to art glass. I enjoy touching it, love the way it reflects and absorbs light and like the notion that glass can be both functional and aesthetic at the same moment. I would search for it at flea markets, thrift stores, galleries and boutiques. Once, on a business trip, I happened across a gallery opening devoted to glass and was so mesmerized by the show that I lost track of time and missed the meeting I had flown two hours to attend. At that moment, I knew "something was up with glass…"
So, in late 1998 I enrolled in a brief glass blowing course and that was the beginning of my new passion. I completed a Bachelor of Arts degree. I have studied glass at Public Glass, San Jose State, San Francisco State, Haystack Mountain School of Crafts and The Studio at the Corning Museum of Glass. I have taught glass blowing at Public Glass. With craftsman sensibilities and a creative soul, I have found my passion in glass.
